Biography
Masaya Mori is executive officer of Rakuten, Inc., the Global E-commerce company. He joined Rakuten in 2006, bringing more than 8 years of experience at Accenture. At Rakuten, Mori founded Rakuten Institute of Technology and grew it to 150 of researchers, attracting an influx of top talents from across the globe. In Mori’s 13-year tenure at Rakuten, he oversees seven institutes worldwide that power Rakuten’s services, implementing strategies for AI, IoT and Big Data solutions. His research institutes have mainly developed robotics technologies, new AI marketing solutions, image recognition, voice recognition, natural language processing, machine translation and language learning solutions. Mori also serves as director of the Database Society of Japan, executive member of the Japan Institute of Information Technology, executive member of Nikkei BP IT Innovators and board member of the Steering Committee of the Ruby Association. In 2013 Mori was recognized by the Nikkei Sangyo Shimbun Newspaper as one of the “40 Prodigies”. Mori is a frequent keynote speaker on topics such as AI, IoT and data. He delivered a speech about SDGs on behalf of Japan IT companies in STI Forum at United Nation in 2018. He has published a number of articles on AI, IoT and data, and is the author of the books, “The Complete Cloud Computing (co-authored, Nikkei BP)” and “Massive Change in the Web (Kindai-Sales Co).
